IN2ITIVE OPENING

I’ve worked with Joan Levine Russell for more than a few years now, primarily while in her Russell Engineering & Land Planning hat. I’ve always known that she is first and foremost an incredibly talented artist, but haven’t had the opportunity to do much for the artist Joan until now. When she asked me to put together a postcard for her upcoming show with Sandra Butler – well, I jumped. I’ve been lucky enough to snoop around her studio and see the work in progress. It’s really fantastic.

You don’t want to miss this.

She will be showing her work along with Sandra Butler this February.

LOCAL FIRST HOLIDAY WRAPPING PAPER

I have always loved wrapping paper. It’s forever been one of those desires, albeit sort of latent and undisclosed, that I would like to design wrapping paper. Being a graphic designer, my infatuation with pattern and texture extends through the entire gamut- from wrapping paper, wall paper, fabric to patters found in nature. I love them all. So when Carol Clark of Local First asked me to design a local wrapping paper for the holidays I was truly fired up.

The mission: design a wrapping paper that represents your feelings about holidays in Durango.
The time frame: 2 days. Yikes! No problem.

Local First is an organization dedicated to keeping dollars in La Plata County. When it comes to buying local, many of us are pretty dedicated to making that happen, however there aren’t too many options for all the pretty wrappings and trim that simply must be a part of the gift. And that’s exactly what Carol sought to do. It’s fantastic.

There were six different designs printed this year and a list of where they can be purchased can be found online at www.localfirst.org

What’s next? I’m already discussing making origami ornaments out of the paper.

Cheers!

A FLOCK OF BRIEGER BIRDS

Really these were just too amazing to keep quiet about, and I’m not talking about a bad 80′s band.

Mike Brieger, a local metal smith & artisan, has outdone himself again. Lucky us! We now have 4 of his amazing steel birds keeping us company all day at the office.

They are nothing short of art. They are filled with motion and energy. Each has its own personality. And oh yeah, they do successfully hold back our 50 lb curtains too. Thank you Mike.

Mike is a master at crafting creatures from steel, whether it be birds, fantasy florals or boats. There is no limit to his imagination. You can get your own by calling Mike at 970.769.0682

ZUBERFIZZ HAS A NEW 8 PACK

It snowed here in Durango today. Actually it dumped. And while I do love winter frolicking, I move into the season like a reluctant cat being pushed out the door in the morning. So, when the new mixed 8-pack gift boxes for Zuberfizz showed up this week, I did what any slightly depressed cold blooded person would do- I cracked open a bottle and welcomed the fizzy happy feeling. Its cheaper than anti-depressants and the bubbles do warm you up!

Zuberfizz is out the door this season with a brand spanking new, mixed soda, gift box, at the request of Cost Plus World Market. They have discovered our little Soda Company and want a piece of it. Who wouldn’t? The box features fantastic images of historic Durango. It seemed to snow more back then.

The Animas Museum, here in Durango has an incredible collection of our slice of history and I encourage anybody within range of Durango to pay it a visit.    www.animasmuseum.org

The 8-Packs can be found on the shelves on Cost Plus World Market sometime later this winter. They didn’t quite make it in time for the holiday season, but bring in the New Year cheer with some fantastic soda or buy a few for your friends.    www.worldmarket.com

KDUR FALL FUNDRAISER 2009

It’s our favorite time of year!

The onset of fall?
Finding that essential Halloween costume?
The impending ski season?

No, silly, the KDUR Fall Fundraiser!

Each year, the task is to come up with a new theme for the Fall Fundraiser drive, appropriate for that year’s events locally or nationally — while driving home the important message that KDUR is a local public radio station.

This year, KDUR is celebrating 35 glorious years of public radio in the 4 Corners. So, naturally, a 70′s themed ‘Family Affair’ poster and t-shirts were the idea for the drive. The poster displays photos of the past station managers in a groovy family tree. To score a ‘hip’ tee & beanie, become a KDUR member October 16-23, 2009.

POOL PARTNERS

It’s official.

Kris and I are officially partners in crime at pool. After 4 months of working hard to get the new shop up and running and creating our own distinctive space, we decided it would benefit us both if I had a little more equity in the business.

I’ve learned so much working with both Kris and Neil at Creative Conspiracy. When I showed up at their door in 2002 as a young pup straight out of College from Minnesota, I had no idea as to what the future would hold or what I would end up doing. I have so much gratitude for all I’ve learned and to all the great people and clients I have worked with.

Kris and I will continue to work together on projects and use each other as sounding boards as we continue to evolve at pool. I look forward to the adventures ahead of us and to working side-by-side Kris.

Always keep moving forward – Always keep things fresh and fluid.

CONTI RUBBER

Continental, specializing in high-tech rubber.

Durango was fortunate enough to have been the host of this year’s Single Speeds World Championships and who better to be there than Continental Tires passing out their newest addition to their rubber fleet.

stickier, faster, longer … that’s how we roll.

DURANGO FALL BLAZE

For all of you cyclists out there take note. The 4th Annual Durango Fall Blaze is right around the corner, on September 26. This century bike tour crosses some beautiful areas in and around Durango with options for shorter distances for those of you who aren’t quite so masochistic. It’s well supported and kicks off with a Packet Pickup Party and ends with a fab lunch! Did I mention beer? (Courtesy of Carver Brewing Company)

This year the poster was designed with the sponsors in mind. There are so many great ones, we wanted to make sure that they were given more than the token bottom line. The theme, while some may say is very avant-psychedelic, I say its how you feel when you finally cross the finish line after riding 100 miles. A little swoopy and ready for a beer!

You can get more information about the tour or sign up online at durangofallblaze.com

LADY GODIVA’S BOOK OF HORSEMANSHIP

Was Lady Godiva a real person? Does it matter? Her spirit of love and generosity is a story known by many. According to the legend, Lady Godiva, in a moment of compassion begged her husband to not impose a tax on the poor of Coventry. He laughed and challenged her to prove her devotion by riding naked through the streets. If she did, he would repeal the tax. And she did.

This book is dedicated to the spirit of Lady Godiva…

We are in the process of designing a new book for author Anita Witt and photographer Robert Royem. Its a marriage of western sensibility and the boldness of the Lady Godiva herself.
